Description
My imaginary scene of 3 Edwardian ladies relaxing while celebrating on the end of Southend-on-Sea Pier, Essex, UK. This is as it might have been before the pier was further extended to over a mile and a quarter in later years to accommodate paddle steamers at low tides.
View is looking east from the Thames Estuary into the North Sea, Kent coast on the right.

Love your Edwardian style of art! It brings me back to Renoir and Seurat paintings which depict people in similar clothing. This image reminds me of Renoir's painting, I think it was called the "Boaters"? People were sitting under a canopy dining at a table overlooking a beautiful water scene. Love your work! l/f
David Godbolt replied:
Thank you Lies for your time, lovely comments, support and encouragement, very much appreciated!

David, what other people see as progress, or improvement, you and I may not. I have seen so many changes in my 69 years. I think back to my childhood and sometimes I feel overwhelmed. I am thrilled that I can still get a glimpse into bygone days by visiting your incredible gallery....it`s better than any history book. Keep up the awesome work brother. You have a lot to offer the world..Southend Pier is in my favs and I added you to my following list
David Godbolt replied:
Thank you Dave, I can still remember when I was 69 as it was only 7 years ago but unfortunately I can't remember what happened yesterday! It gets worse but keeping up humor and nostalgia keep me going!

More sweet nostalgia David...your colors are perfect brother...from the ladies dresses to the water and the awesome red and white fringed canopy...you are bringing the past to life..great gold medal art...l.v.f.
David Godbolt replied:
Oh Dave you are so encouraging, just love your comments. Thank you so much! BTW it's about 30 years since I went to the end of the Pier but finally got there again since painting this. I was so disappointed with it now and much prefer my version so I think it is good therapy to use our imagination when possible as it is mostly larger than life! :)
